MLB and ESPN have a framework for a new three-year deal starting next season, with final signing expected in September. Under the agreement, ESPN would take over out-of-market streaming rights (currently MLB.TV), meaning fans outside their team’s home region would access games through ESPN’s app. ESPN would also get local rights for five MLB-controlled clubs — the Guardians, Padres, Twins, Diamondbacks, and Rockies — so fans in those markets would watch directly on ESPN instead of a regional sports network. On the national stage, ESPN will continue to carry about 30 exclusive regular-season games, shifting away from its longtime Sunday Night Baseball slot to a new weeknight. The short, three-year term lines up all MLB media rights to expire in 2029, setting the league up for one massive auction of regular-season, playoff, and World Series rights.
